LONG BRANCH CELEBRATES ITALIAN HERITAGE MONTH

The Arts & Cultural Center Shines a Light on Italian Families’ Contribution to Long Branch

LONG BRANCH – Italians in Long Branch, at the Long Branch Arts & Cultural Center, celebrates the history and legacy of Italian immigrants who made Long Branch their new home in the early 20th century. This exhibit pays tribute to the strength and spirit of the Italian immigrants who settled in Long Branch and who’s legacy continues to shape the city.

“It’s been a big family reunion collaborating with so many Italian families and clubs in Long Branch in order to bring this exhibit to life,” expressed Arts Director Margaret Fischer.

Long Branch, like a well-cooked Sunday sauce (or gravy), is a melting pot of cultures. The Italian immigrants’ story is one of the many that make up the history of the city. Like many immigrants, Italians left behind their familiar homes in search of new opportunities along the Atlantic coast. Through artifacts and family treasures, this exhibit honors the remarkable handiwork, hard work, and perseverance that defined their journey. Skilled artisans, who brought shoemaking, tailoring, gardening, and other crafts to Long Branch demonstrated a commitment to their trades. Their dedication not only sustained their families but also enriched the community, laying the foundation for future generations.

“Italian immigrants used their craftmanship and practical skills to help shape the identity of our region,” said Mayor John Pallone. “This exhibit, in celebration of Italian Heritage Month, highlights the significance of cultural heritage and serves as a reminder that Italian traditions are one of many that have contributed to our community,” continued Pallone.
