August 6th - Junior Lifeguard Nationals South Padre Island, Texas

Long Branch Jr Guards is a program that we strongly believe should be for any kid from the ages of 6 to 15. With so many kids involved in so many activities we try to make this program an escape for them of the pressure that other organized sports may have attached to them and to meet new people from all over the county. Long Branch Junior Guards will help build character and confidence.

Our team of coaches have over 150 years of experience on the beach and in the water. These hand selected coaches have a special gift of bringing your kid to a new level of respect and athleticism.

The Long Branch Junior Lifeguard program provides  young kids with an experience that prepares them for many high pressure situation that life may throw at us.

We teach our Junior Guards skills in a non stressful way and at their own pace, we do not force them to do anything they don’t feel comfortable with and try to work with them to find a confidence they didn’t have before they started our program. We’ve watched many kids Excel in situations they felt uncomfortable before the start of the program. New Jersey is surrounded by water, no matter where you’re from and your children will have a better understanding of the water safety. They will meet new friends that may not be in their school district as many of our Juniors come from all over Monmouth County and New Jersey.

If you have not been a part of our program in the past, we would love for you to join our team, and we promise to do everything we can to make it their most fun activity in the summer. Our favorite compliment to hear as coaches at Long Branch Junior lifeguards is when a parent tells us is that Junior Guards is something they don’t need to push or bribe their kids  out of bed to go to as as they wake up with a smile saying they can’t wait for practice.

Please join us for 2024 season as we expect this to be our best season with the best coaches. Thank you all,

Long Branch Junior Guards.

FAQ:

What time is practice?

Starfish 6-8 yrs old and Group C 9-11 yrs old 8:00-9:30 Starfish are only Mondays, Wednesdays, Friday

Group A 14-15 yrs old and Group B 12-13 yrs old 9:30-11:00 am Monday, Wednesday, Friday

What will our children learn during practice?

Living near the Jersey shore, it is very important that our kids understand how to handle themselves in the ocean.

They will learn ocean safety, CPR training, lifeguard equipment, rip currents, teamwork and appreciation for the ocean.

They will practice swimming, running, rescuing, paddle-boarding, the importance of reef safe sunblock, and the older kids will learn kayaking and rowing.

What kind of swimsuit should my child wear?

Whatever suit your child is comfortable with is good with us! We will have custom bathing suits for purchase

Do not stress on color as they all are bright.

Where do I drop off my child?

The beach where we practice is called South Pavilion Beach. The best way to arrive is making a right hand turn onto South Bath once you reach the boardwalk, turn left and follow the boardwalk down until you reach South Pavilion Ave. You will see 2 trailers on the beach where we store equipment, one of them says Long Branch Junior Guards on it and is white the other is black and says Monmouth County Competition team.

It is a one way street and very important you have your kid 100% ready to open the car door and get to the beach, (carpool to practice if possible is recommended) . This area is very known for gridlocking and every second counts. This is out of our control where we practice and ask for your patience and cooperation. You can find parking on the other side of Ocean Ave after or before you drop your kids off.

What to bring to practice?

Sunscreen, water, towel, t-shirt goggles optional, swim cap we provide optional, granola bar in case they get a little hungry, book bag for keeping everything together.

Can I stay at the beach while my child practices?

Yes you can, you will not be required to pay from 8:30am to 11:30am, but are expected to leave after practice ends at 11:30am, if you want to stay for the day you will need to buy a daily beach badge or seasonal.

How do I pay for the program?

You can only register via Community Pass on the Long Branch Recreation web page.

When are the competitions?

We have the strongest team on the shore and the best coaches to teach your kids to be great Junior Guard competitors if they want to be. We have 7 competitions through out the month of July and August all over the shore and also a National competition in in South Padre Island Texas on August 6th. If you’re interested in Nationals, please reach out so you can start figuring out hotels and vacation time. Our Host tournament at Long Branch is Tuesday July 16th . It’s a very special day for All our competitors and we encourage parents to come watch and volunteer if possible or be a Sponsor.

Is it ok if my child misses practice?

Yes, many families will be going on vacation at some point during our program. We do not keep attendance or penalize kids for missing practice.

There will be competitions for Groups ABC and will send dates out when I have them. Long Branch will also host a competition for all towns. These tournaments are not cheap and we need to buy 500 shirts. If we have any parents that own their own business or who work for a business and would like to be a sponsor be on the back of 500 shirts all over Monmouth County please let us know! Last year we had about 15 great sponsors and hopefully can get a few more. This Tournament is on Tuesday, July 16th.

Thank you all for being a part of this year's LBJG SQUAD!
